Have frosty fun for the entire family at Disney’s Blizzard Beach water park, a one-time ski Disney resort that has melted into a water park wonderland. Zip down the icy slopes of Mount Gushmore on one of the world’s tallest, unique, and fastest waterslides. Relax down the tranquil river and sunbathe on the white-sand warm beach. Children under 48 inches tall can even splash around and have fun in their own water play area with a snow-castle fountain and kid-sized water slides.
All Walt Disney’s Blizzard Beach water areas are warm, except for the melting snow in the ice cave of Cross Country Creek. The park opened on April, 1995. Disney’s Blizzard Beach was the third Walt Disney World water park.
The park hosted approximately 1,929,000 guests in 2012, ranking it the world’s second-most visited water park, behind its sister park, Typhoon Lagoon. The major attractions at the park are hosted at the top of Mount Gushmore. Mount Gushmore is split into three colored areas slopes to aid guests navigating around the park: Green, Red and Purple.
Blizzard Beach is open from March 15 to January 3. From January 4 to March 14, the park is closed for annual refurbishments. During the closure, Typhoon Lagoon remains open.
